We really can’t get enough of Game of Thrones music! So, Celtic World Orchestra has created several music pieces based on this series. This particular classical piece is based on the Game of Thrones main title music. For this piece, our title is “Game of Thrones Nuálach”. That means “edgy”. Our piece is based on the original piece composed by Ramin Djawadi.
About the Series – Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is an action TV Series. It has garnered a broad fan base and utilizes many pieces of iconic music.
The main theme of Game of Thrones music is probably the most memorable and interesting. Celtic World Orchestra are huge fans of Game of Thrones. And consequently we have written and recorded 4 pieces based around its music. And we have released 2 pieces so far — this one and “Light Of The Seven”. We also have 2 original pieces that will be released later this year.

While working on this piece, we focused on creating something edgier than the original. It made sense that we would employ the full range of orchestral instruments to create it since we’re an orchestra, and we did.
Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) gets much respect from us for playing the memorable flute passage in the introductory section. Thank you Ian.
History of this Piece
The original piece itself was composed by Ramin Djawadi. Typical fantasy theme instruments, such as violins and flutes, were asked to be avoided. Instead, Djawadi used cello as the lead instrument. The Game of Thrones music composition starts off in a minor key, but it doesn’t stay that way. For instance, it switches between major and minor keys throughout the song. Interestingly, the actual title sequence came before the musical score that accompanied it. Ramin was shown the title score before he sat down and created the theme. As a result, the concepts he was shown influenced the overall style of his compositions on this piece.
Designed to be a definitive theme to accompany a great journey, this opening piece is quite special. The sheer volume of characters and destinations included in Game of Thrones is significant. And it’s not difficult to musically and visually picture this theme creating associations with journeys and epic adventures.
To say that Game of Thrones music is very popular is an understatement. This theme has been the subject of several covers and parodies. Whether its experimentation with different types of musical instruments, or the introduction of a music video.
Finis
To record and release Game of Thrones Music is our privilege. Accordingly, it was undeniably enjoyable to capture the essence of the television show while adding a unique musical twist to it. Also, among many members of the Celtic World Orchestra team, the music video is a point of pride. This video features the battle sequence known as “Massacre at Hardhome”. And this episode has been hailed by many reviewers and fans as one of the series’ best episodes.
Celtic World Orchestra is planning ahead (Spoiler alert) for the Game of Thrones Prequel Series.
